Baked Macaroni & Cheese


A comfort food for the soul.  That’s what they all say about Mac and Cheese.  But it was hard to find sharp cheddar cheese in the grocery.  I tried my luck in SM Hypermart and found a pack, shredded even.  Jackpot!

Baked Macaroni and Cheese



4 cups elbow macaroni

1 stick of butter

3 tbsp flour

3 cups milk

2 cups sharp cheddar, shredded

a dash of salt & pepper


3 tbsp butter, melted

1 cup breadcrumbs



Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Cook the pasta according to package directions or until al dente about 8-10 minutes.  In a separate pot, melt the butter under low heat.  Whisk in flour to make a roux, make sure it’s free of lumps.  Stir in milk gradually.  Add salt & pepper.  Simmer for about 3minutes then turn off heat.  Add cheese and continue stirring until all cheese are melted.  Fold in cooked macaroni and pour into a casserole dish.  Add more shredded cheese on top.  Top with melted butter & breadcrumb mixture.  Bake for 30minutes.   Remove from oven and let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
